The Centre for Health Protection (CHP) has reported Hong Kong's 24th case of chikungunya fever of the year, involving a man who recently visited Jiangmen in Guangdong province.
According to the CHP, the 59-year-old resident of Wong Tai Sin District was in Jiangmen from September 23 to 26, and he was bitten by mosquitoes there.
He developed a fever and joint pain on Tuesday, followed by a rash a day later.
The man sought treatment at Queen Elizabeth Hospital on Wednesday and is now in stable condition.
Health authorities said three household contacts, including one who accompanied the patient to Jiangmen during part of his trip, are asymptomatic.
All 24 cases of the mosquito-borne disease in Hong Kong this year were imported.
