Two women were killed in a car crash in Tai Po on Monday while two others were hurt.
Police said they received reports shortly before 4pm that a private car had rammed into a van that was parked on Po Heung Lane, near a roundabout.
The van then veered forward and hit a female pedestrian, 37, who ended up being trapped between the vehicle and a lamppost. Officers said she sustained multiple injuries and died at the scene.
Another pedestrian, 88, suffered serious wounds to her head, and was rushed to Prince of Wales Hospital where she was declared dead.
The van driver, as well as a passenger on the private car, sustained minor injuries.
Officers later arrested the private car driver, 60, on suspicion of dangerous driving causing death.
