More visitors arriving in Hong Kong during the National Day Golden Week holiday seem to have opted for overnight stays, according to tourism-sector lawmaker Perry Yiu, with hotels seeing a rise in bookings and occupancy rates.
"Visitors made hotel bookings in advance and were less spontaneous," Yiu told RTHK's "In the Chamber" programme on Wednesday.
"At the same time, we're seeing a higher proportion of tourists staying overnight than usual. At least 60 percent of travellers in tour groups opted for overnight stays. We saw an increase in hotel bookings, occupancy rates and revenue."
The overlapping of the National Day Golden Week and Mid-Autumn Festival celebrations has given retail sales and restaurants a boost over the past week, Yiu added.
