A woman and her baby were found dead in a flat at Shouson Hill Road in Southern District on Monday.

Police received a report at around 4pm from a man stating that his wife and seven-month-old daughter had died in their flat at Shouson Garden.

Officers arrived at the scene and found the woman in a cloakroom, while the baby collapsed on the kitchen floor.

Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

At a press briefing on Monday evening, Assistant Director of Crime Hui Hong-kit said officers found a note at the scene, which was believed to be left by the woman.

Hui also said forensic staff were deployed to assist with investigations.

"For now, we can see that the woman, apart from having injuries to her neck, which matches with her hanging herself to death, she had no other suspicious wounds on her body. As for the seven-month-old baby, she had no obvious wounds as well," he said.

"Our forensic staff preliminarily deduced that both of them may have died from suffocation," he added.

An autopsy will be carried out to ascertain the cause of death.

The case has been classified as infanticide and suicide.
