Foreign Minister Wang Yi said the world is heading towards a multipolar system.
Speaking at the Lanting Forum in Beijing on Monday, he urged "an end to politicising economic and trade issues, artificially fragmenting global markets, and resorting to trade wars and tariff battles."
The foreign minister pushed for the Global Governance Initiative to help resolve geopolitical tensions.
"The clearest message of the Global Governance Initiative is to harness the power of unity. Today, more than 50 conflicts of various kinds are taking place around the world, and over 100 million people have been displaced. A world entangled in chaos needs stronger global governance more than ever," Wang said.
"Blind faith in the supremacy of power and a fondness for coercion and bullying will only push the world toward a jungle-like environment where the strong prey on the weak, thereby destabilising the foundations of the international system and rules."
The Global Governance Initiative was put forward by President Xi Jinping, calling on all countries to jointly build a more just and equitable global governance system.
"Frequently withdrawing from agreements and reneging on commitments, while enthusiastically forming blocs and cliques, has subjected multilateralism to unprecedented challenges," Wang added.
"The tide of history cannot be reversed and a multipolar world is coming." (Agencies)
