Health officials have confirmed three new cases of chikungunya fever on Monday, following closely on the heels of the city's first local case discovered on Sunday.
The Centre for Health Protection (CHP) is working to determine if one of the new cases is locally acquired.
The centre said the case involves a 55-year-old woman from Wong Tai Sin, who is a staff member at a school in Fung Tak Estate – an area where the first locally-infected patient lives.
The CHP said her source of infection has yet to be confirmed, as she had travelled to Shanwei and Shenzhen in Guangdong earlier this month before developing a fever, rash and joint pain on October 24.
The second and third cases, meanwhile, were imported.
They involved a Tung Chung resident who had previously travelled to Foshan in Guangdong, and a woman who lives in Tseung Kwan O who had visited Guangzhou and Huizhou.
All three patients are hospitalised in stable condition.
In response to the city's first local case, the Environment and Ecology Bureau held a special interdepartmental meeting, urging all relevant government departments to strengthen anti-mosquito measures within their areas of responsibility.
