Vice Premier He Lifeng will next week deliver a keynote speech at the Global Financial Leaders' Investment Summit, Hong Kong's annual flagship financial event.

Some 300 executives from around the world are expected to attend the fourth edition of the summit, which will be themed "Trekking through Shifting Terrain". Among them will be over 100 top bosses.

They include UBS chairman Colm Kelleher, HSBC chief executive Georges Elhedery, Standard Chartered chief executive Bill Winters, and first-time participants such as Macquarie chief executive Shemara Wikramanayake and BlackRock co-founder Larry Fink.

Speaking in a statement, Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) chief executive Eddie Yue said this year's theme illustrates how navigating the current economic landscape is similar to hiking through rough terrain.

"Just as hiking demands an eye on the weather, a change of terrain, and on-the-spot problem-solving, navigating today’s shifting geo-economic climate as a financial leader calls for risk awareness, prudent preparation, agility and resilience," he said.

"In a year marked by trade policy shifts, rising debt levels and slowing growth, financial leaders and regulators alike find themselves trying to stay afoot in an ever-changing landscape," he added.

Yue also noted that Hong Kong has come a long way since the summit was launched by HKMA three years ago.

"The capital markets are [now] booming, investments and capital are flowing into our banks, and the streets are once again bustling with life – all of which we do not take for granted, especially against an increasingly uncertain geoeconomic landscape," he said.

According to an agenda released by HKMA, the vice premier – the nation's top official overseeing the financial sector – will deliver an opening keynote speech via video link next Tuesday during the main summit.

Meanwhile, Chief Executive John Lee, Financial Secretary Paul Chan and Yue will also deliver welcome and keynote remarks.

The three-day event is scheduled to start from November 3, when a welcome dinner takes place at the Hong Kong Palace Museum.
