A 52-year-old man has died after a fire broke out at his home in Ngau Tau Kok.

Police was alerted late on Thursday about smoke billowing out of a flat at Lotus Tower of Kwun Tong Garden Estate.

Firefighters broke into the unit and found the man, who was unconscious and later certified died at United Christian Hospital.

Officers said they had not found any evidence of wrongdoing for the time being and are looking into the cause of the blaze.

The cause of death will be determined in an autopsy, the force said.

More than a dozen residents from the estate evacuated to safety.
