HK, mainland markets inch down in opening trades

Asian shares are set for a seventh straight month of gains on Friday after upbeat earnings from Amazon and Apple buoyed Wall Street futures.

In Hong Kong, the benchmark Hang Seng Index opened down 19 points, or 0.07 percent, at 26,263.

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index was down 0.05 percent at 3,985 while the Shenzhen Component Index was 0.11 percent lower at 13,517.

The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, too was down 0.08 percent at 3,260.

MSCI's broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan rose 0.2 percent on Friday.

Japan's Nikkei share average climbed to an all-time high on Friday, as tech stocks jumped following strong sales forecasts from Amazon and Apple .

The Nikkei rose up to 2.1 percent to an unprecedented 52,391 in early trading and was last up 1.2 percent as of midday. It has gained about 15.5 percent so far this month. (Agencies/Xinhua)
