Team Hong Kong, China, has concluded a triumphant campaign at the Asian Youth Games in Bahrain, securing a historic 36 medals and a seventh-place finish in the overall standings.

The SAR’s young athletes delivered an outstanding performance, clinching 13 gold, 13 silver and 10 bronze medals.

The contingent's success was spearheaded by a dominant showing in the pool, with swimmers contributing a significant portion of the medal count.

The victories extended across a diverse range of sports, including athletics, road cycling, table tennis, e-sports and triathlon over the nine-day competition.

Philip Mok - chef de mission of the Hong Kong, China, contingent - hailed the achievements as a sign of a promising new generation.

He noted that nearly half of the 14 sports in which Hong Kong participated were ones the SAR had never before entered athletes for.

"The remarkable achievements of our athletes reflect the promising and sustainable development of sports in Hong Kong, demonstrating the growing strength and versatility of our young athletes across multiple disciplines," Mok said.

He also emphasised the athletes' character beyond their technical skills.

"Our young athletes displayed unwavering commitment, tireless efforts and a fearless spirit on the field, which are truly commendable," Mok said.

He highlighted the value of the Games lies in its being a training ground for future international competitions, including the Olympics and the Asian Games.

"By competing against top-tier opponents, they have gained invaluable experience and forged friendships that transcend borders," Mok said. "This is vital for their sporting careers."

The seventh-placed finish in the overall medal standings came in a Games in which 45 Asian countries and regions took part in.
