Acting Chief Executive Eric Chan says events that Hong Kong is staging as part of the National Games will raise the SAR's profile as a sporting destination.

Speaking on Commercial Radio on Saturday, he said ticket sales, as well as preparations for the 15th National Games that will officially launch on November 9, are progressing satisfactorily.

Hong Kong is hosting eight competitive sports events in the territory and two that are cross-boundary.

"By staging such a large-scale sports event for the first time, if we manage to do it well, it can act as a reference and basis for when Hong Kong holds similar events in future," Chan said.

"This will greatly boost Hong Kong's profile in the sports sector, and I believe it will be a great help when it comes to hosting international or local events."

Chan said a command centre would be set up for every competition to ensure the smooth running of the events.

Only designated food will be provided for athletes, and medical workers will be present at their hotels, he added.
