Health officials on Thursday reported two more chikungunya fever infections, including one domestic case.
The locally acquired case involves a female patient, 68, who lives in Tung Hei Court in Shau Kei Wan. She has not travelled in the past two months.
The Centre for Health Protection (CHP) said the patient developed joint pain on Monday, as well as a fever and rash the following day – when she sought hospital treatment.
"The patient's residence and usual activity areas do not overlap with areas where imported or local cases have been recorded in recent months," a statement said.
"The CHP will carry out a genome analysis to ascertain whether the patient has epidemiological linkage with other cases in Hong Kong."
The other new case is considered imported and involves an 83-year-old man living in Foshan in Guangdong province.
The patient came to Hong Kong on Monday, during which he developed a fever and joint pain. He sought help at a hospital on Wednesday.
The SAR has recorded 61 cases of chikungunya fever so far this year, four of which are local.
