Chief Executive John Lee on Saturday presented awards and honours to people at Government House following their recognition in this year’s Honours List.

Among the recipients, the founder of Hong Kong Economic Times, Lawrence Fung; businessman Charles Yeung; and former Hospital Authority Chairman John Leong received the Grand Bauhinia Medal - the SAR’s highest award.

Twenty people received the Gold Bauhinia Star award, 29 the Silver Bauhinia Star, and 46 the Bronze Bauhinia Star.

The award presentation for the former head of the Government Logistics Department, Carlson Chan, was placed on hold due to an ongoing disciplinary investigation over the department's procurement of bottled water for public offices earlier this year.

Chan has been awarded the Silver Bauhinia Star.

In all, nine people were honoured for their contributions to safeguarding national security.

Meanwhile, members of the 51-strong search and rescue team sent to Myanmar following a devastating magnitude 7.7 earthquake earlier this year were awarded the Chief Executive’s Commendation for Government/Public Service or the Chief Executive’s Commendation for Community Service.

And two people received the Medal for Bravery for their heroic acts during the New Lucky House fire in Jordan that killed five people and injured dozens.
