A public toilet in Hong Kong’s nightlife district has been named the best in the city this year.
The Hong Kong Toilet Association on Tuesday unveiled the annual survey results of the best and worst public restrooms, saying the design of the lavatory in Lan Kwai Fong “blended seamlessly” with the area’s ambiance.
The association also said the toilet was clean and odourless overall, despite it being frequented by revellers.
“The toilet host was cleaning all the time the [surface of] the wash basin and kept opening the door to see whether there’s anything left dirty and flush it immediately,” said Henry Hung, president of the association.
“The one who is in charge of the cleaning of the toilet will make a big difference.”
The Lan Kwai Fong public toilet stood out from some 300 conveniences around the city that were evaluated on comfort, accessibility, safety, hygiene, management and education.
The public toilet in Kam Tin Shi and the lavatory in Catchick Street Garden in Sai Wan came in second and third respectively.
The association also named three lavatories “in desperate need of improvement”, including one on Kowloon City Road, one at Kai Tin Shopping Centre, and one in Sai Ying Pun market.
While it’s not the first time the association has put the Sai Ying Pun market’s public toilet at the bottom of the list, Hung said the age and location of the lavatory makes it difficult to maintain cleanliness.
