Some roads in Hong Kong Island North, Kowloon East and Tseung Kwan O will be closed temporarily from the early hours of November 23 for the Hong Kong Streetathon.

Roads will be closed from 1am to about 1pm.

Marathon and half-marathon runners will start from the Island Eastern Corridor near East Coast Park before going through the Eastern Harbour Crossing into Kowloon and using the Yau Ma Tei section of the yet-to-open Central Kowloon Bypass. The finishing line will be at the Yau Ma Tei Interchange.

As for the 10km race, participants will go from Tiu Keng Leng to Kwun Tong Promenade via the Tseung Kwan O-Lam Tin Tunnel and Kwun Tong Bypass.

At a press briefing on Tuesday, CEO and co-founder of event organiser RunOurCity Foundation Andes Leung said this year marks the 10th anniversary of the Streetathon.

"This is also the first time that runners will run on a section of a road that is not open to traffic yet – the Yau Ma Tei section of the Central Kowloon Bypass. So we had to rely on our team and many government departments to make this happen. We hope that everything will go smoothly. This section will see a lot of road closures arrangements," he said.

"Apart from this, unlike other large-scale events and yet-to-open road sections, the route this time will even connect with the ones participants had run in the past nine editions, which will increase the difficulty level and make it more fun."

Leung called on the 20,000 participants to arrive at the assembly points 1.5 hours in advance to undergo baggage and security checks, as those turning up late will be barred from entering the race.

All MTR lines, except the Airport Express and Disneyland Resort Line, will start operating earlier than usual on the day to transport runners to the starting points.
