President Xi Jinping held a phone call with his US counterpart, Donald Trump, on Monday night, state media reported.
According to Xinhua News Agency, Xi told Trump that Sino-US ties have generally remained stable and improved since the two leaders’ meeting in Busan last month.
He said China and the US should maintain this momentum and move towards the right direction by expanding cooperation and narrowing differences.
President Xi also clarified China's position on the Taiwan issue, saying Taiwan's return to China is an important part of the post-war international order.
China and the United States once fought side by side against fascism and militarism, Xi noted, adding that the two sides should jointly safeguard the victorious outcomes of World War II. (Xinhua)
