President Xi Jinping on Wednesday expressed condolences to the victims of a deadly blaze in Tai Po.
Firefighters said at least 13 people have died and 30 injured in the No. 5 alarm fire in Wang Fuk Court.
Speaking on CCTV, Xi extended sympathy and condolences to the victims' families, including a firefighter who died while on duty.
The president urged all-out efforts in putting out the fire and minimising casualties and losses.
Xi told the Hong Kong and Macau Work Office and the liaison office to support the SAR government in putting out the blaze and its search-and-rescue efforts.
He also told the director of the liaison office to convey his condolences and sympathies to Chief Executive John Lee.
