Mainland charities and companies are pouring financial, equipment and aid into Hong Kong as the city continues to battle one of the worst fires for a second day on Thursday.

They are led by a charity and organisations linked to mainland tycoon and philanthropist Jack Ma.

The Jack Ma Foundation has pledged HK$30 million for emergency aid to those affected by the fire, with HK$20 million more coming from Alibaba Group and HK$10 million from Ant Group.

Among the companies helping out are sportswear giants Anta Group and 361 degrees, internet technology company ByteDance, phone and electric carmaker Xiaomi, technology giant Tencent, carmaker Xpeng and Fuguiniao.

Donations pledged earlier in the day include HK$30 million from Anta Group, HK$15 million from 361 degrees, HK$10 million each from ByteDance, Xiaomi and Tencent and HK$5 million each from Xpeng and Fuguiniao.

The latest to join in the donation drive are Wens Foodstuff, whose core business is in pork production, with HK$40 million for Hong Kong construction efforts, and express-delivery giant S F Holding with HK$20 million; with HK$10 million each coming from electrical appliances manufacturer Midea, games developer Netease and online travel agency Trip.com.

They were followed by Xiamen-based Xtep International with HK$20 million and HK$10 million each from manufacturer Lenovo, tech giant Baidu and its fintech arm Duxiaoman as well as carmaker Geely.

China Red Cross is also helping out with two million yuan. (Reuters)
