French President Emmanuel Macron will visit China between December 3 and 5, according to the Foreign Ministry in Beijing.
Macron's office said on Wednesday that he would meet President Xi Jinping during the visit.
The confirmation of the trip comes as Foreign Minister Wang Yi told France's top diplomat Emmanuel Bonne that Beijing hopes France can encourage the European Union to adopt "positive and reasonable" policies on China and resolve trade differences through dialogue.
Wang reiterated China's opposition to Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi's recent remarks about Taiwan and called on France to "continue to firmly uphold the one-China principle," according to a readout of the conversation released by the Foreign Ministry.
Wang and Bonne also agreed to maintain communication over Ukraine, the ministry said. (Reuters/Xinhua)
