The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) on Tuesday said at least 63 pets were killed in the Tai Po fire.

The group's Marsha Chun told RTHK that more than 200 animals survived and of these, 10 are still waiting to be claimed by their owners.

She said most of the rescued pets were cats, while others included turtles, fish, dogs and snakes.

Chun said some of the animals may have been traumatised by the fire.

"Owners have to always pay attention to the pets' behaviour if it's different from usual. For example, if their appetite has changed, or they tremble or are unwilling to move," she said.

"If they have not returned to their usual condition after a certain period of time, then the owners might have to take them to vets to see if they can help, or contact us as we also offer such support services."

Chun said no further animals were discovered at Wang Fuk Court on Monday and the SPCA could end its rescue operation at the site.
