Chief Executive John Lee said on Tuesday that he will not tolerate any attempt to exploit the Tai Po fire and undermine society’s commitment to recovery.

His warning came a day after Secretary for Security Chris Tang said that some individuals had tried to undermine national security by spreading fake news and inciting dissatisfaction with the government.

Lee was asked about reports that three people had been arrested for sedition.

"I will not tolerate any crimes, particular crimes that exploit the tragedy that we are facing now... Everybody in Hong Kong are uniting to help those who suffer to continue their [lives] and face up to the future," he said.

"Anybody... anybody who dares to sabotage this attempt, this commitment of society... We will do anything we can to ensure that justice will be done."

He said law enforcement agencies will take action against crimes in accordance with the law.
