Hong Kong banks have pledged more support for victims of the deadly blaze at Tai Po's Wang Fuk Court, offering interest-free loans and fee waivers.
Announcing on Thursday further steps to help those affected, the Hong Kong Monetary Authority and the Hong Kong Association of Banks said the sector would expedite the handling of bank accounts and safe deposit boxes of the deceased.
Banks would offer emergency interest-free or low-interest loans with handling fees of the first six months waived, and expand credit-support measures for affected residents to cover workers who died or were injured in the fire and their families.
Financial establishments are also waiving handling fees of donations to a government fund helping the victims.
The three note-issuing banks, for their part, would exchange damaged banknotes and coins for affected residents.
