Electoral Affairs Commission chairman David Lok said on Monday that he was encouraged by the fact that over 1.3 million voters took part in the Legislative Council Elections.
Speaking during a media briefing as votes were being counted overnight, Lok acknowledged that it was difficult to hold the polls at this time, as many people have been affected by the deadly Tai Po blaze.
Lok said he believes the polls were the first step to normalcy after the tragedy, and expressed the hope that they could bring more positive energy, and help Hong Kong recover as quickly as possible.
Lok also said the voting process has been smooth and hopes that the remaining results will be announced within hours.
