Homeowners at fire-razed Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po will receive the latest subsidy of HK$100,000 in a few days, according to the deputy chief secretary.

The indication of the timescale came a day after the government announced that it would offer HK$100,000 to help owners deal with lost rental income that they had been using to cover their living expenses and cash-flow issues after having spent money on the major renovations put paid to by the fire.

Warner Cheuk told Commercial Radio on Thursday that along with the HK$100,000 "living allowance" that was offered to affected households earlier, homeowners living at the residential complex at the time of the blaze would get HK$200,000 in total.

"We will check with the Land Registry to find out who the homeowners are. It won't take long," he said.

"If the payment is by bank transfer, all of the subsidies will be disbursed within a day or two."

Cheuk emphasised that the support fund, which had risen to about HK$3.4 billion, would offer continuing assistance to the victims, including medium- and long-term help, and deal with the residents' housing needs.

A working group led by Deputy Financial Secretary Michael Wong is considering whether the fund could be used for rebuilding the estate, Cheuk said, adding that it would not rule out any possibility.
