Tuen Ma Line passengers passing through Hung Hom Station will need to change trains on two Sundays early next year, the MTR said on Wednesday.
The special arrangements will apply on February 1 and March 8.
The railway company said sections of track near Hung Hom Station will be closed for modification works.
“Only passengers passing through Hung Hom Station need to alight at the station,” said MTR’s head of Line Group Management for Tuen Ma Line, David Chan.
“And they go to the opposite platform at the same level to interchange and then they can continue their journey as usual.”
Chief Infrastructure Development and Engineering Asset Manager Jonathan Lau said the works will make services between Hung Hom and East Tsim Sha Tsui slightly smoother.
He also said the modification works cannot be done during normal maintenance hours due to their complexity.
“We need to adjust the alignment and gradient of our tracks. After that, we’ll have to modify the positions of our signalling systems, overhead cables and so on,” he said.
“We’ll also need to run empty trains to carry out inspections so that service can resume as normal the next day.”
The MTR said it will deploy 150 extra staff to assist passengers on the two Sundays.
