A burst water pipe caused the suspension of fresh water supplies in parts of Sheung Shui on Sunday as families prepare for celebrations for the Winter Solstice.

The Water Supplies Department said the pipe concerned is on San Wan Road near So Kwun Po Road.

The burst on Sunday morning led to the suspension of water supply to four residential blocks, as well as Tin Ping Shopping Centre.

Tanker trucks were on hand to provide water to those affected.

The department apologised to the public for the inconvenience.

It said engineers have been conducting emergency repairs and would look to resume water supply as soon as possible.

The department said later in the afternoon officials hope to complete emergency repair works overnight.
