Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian said any attempts to thwart reunification is doomed to fail.

His comments came as the People's Liberation Army began military drills codenamed "Justice Mission 2025" around Taiwan.

"The Taiwan issue is the core of China’s core interests, and China’s resolve to safeguard national sovereignty, security and territorial integrity is unwavering," Lin told a regular press briefing on Monday.

"Any vile act of crossing the line and provoking on the Taiwan question will be met with China’s firm countermeasures.

"Any sinister attempt to obstruct China’s reunification will never succeed." (Xinhua and agencies)
