Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Tuesday denounced US arms sales to Taiwan and said any attempt to thwart China's reunification is doomed to fail.
"In response to the continuous provocations by 'Taiwan independence' forces and large-scale US arms sales to Taiwan, we must, of course, resolutely oppose and forcefully counter them," Wang said in a speech.
He added that any attempt to obstruct China's reunification will inevitably end in failure.
The foreign minister also said Beijing will stick to the principles of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and win-win cooperation when it comes to developing China-US ties.
Wang's comments came as China held a second day of military exercises around Taiwan.
Beijing has said it would take "resolute and forceful measures" to safeguard national sovereignty after the Trump administration approved a US$11 billion arms deal to Taiwan earlier this month. (Agencies)
