The Development Bureau on Monday said a firm dedicated to managing the development and operations of a 23-hectare site in Hung Shui Kiu will proactively lure leading firms to set up shop there.
Permanent Secretary for Development (Planning and Lands) Doris Ho told RTHK's Backchat programme that the non-statutory Hung Shui Kiu Industry Park Company Limited, which was set up last month, has completed registration.
She said the company will focus on attracting leading firms from both the mainland and overseas.
"But these enterprises, normally they do not take part in on our traditional land sales through tender. What [is] more likely [to] happen, as we observed in places in the Chinese mainland and overseas, is that the government will send a dedicated team of people to talk to these enterprises to see what we can do to attract them to settle in Hong Kong," she said.
"So the Hung Shui Kiu Park Company will work in a similar manner."
Ho went on to say that it is a new approach that integrates the government's leadership and the private sector's expertise to accelerate the SAR's industrial growth.
Some mainland and overseas firms have submitted a request to the SAR's official investment promotion agency to request land in Hung Shui Kiu, she said, and they specialise in advanced construction and smart manufacturing.
Ho believes this will help the chief executive of the park – which the government will start recruiting for this month – in identifying two to three target industries that it wishes to attract to the park.
