Venezuelan acting President Delcy Rodriguez met with China's ambassador to the South American country, Lan Hu, she said in a post on Telegram on Thursday.

"We value China's firm and consistent stance in strongly condemning the serious violation of international law and Venezuelan sovereignty," Rodriguez said, referring to the US capture of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro over the weekend.

Meanwhile, Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yvan Gil said in a separate Telegram post on Thursday that Caracas reaffirms its commitment to deepening economic and trade agreements with China.

"Venezuela reaffirms its commitment to deepening trade and economic agreements with the People's Republic of China," Gil said.

He emphasised that the bilateral relationship "is supported by the framework of international laws and regulations of both sovereign countries." (Reuters/ Xinhua)
