Lawmakers Ronick Chan and Junius Ho were on Monday elected unopposed as chair and vice chair of the legislature's House Committee, following coordination between councillors.

The Finance Committee is headed by Jimmy Ng from the Business and Professionals Alliance, and his deputy is DAB chairman Gary Chan.

The results came after new Legco President Starry Lee announced the setting up of a group coordinating council affairs, as she hosted a new internal work meeting.

Ronick Chan and unionist lawmaker Stanley Ng will head the 12-member group, which also works on matters like coordinating the chairs and vice-chairs of different Legco committees.

In previous Legco terms, similar coordination on leaderships existed, but it was mostly conducted in private.

Writing on social media, Lee expressed hope that the regular internal meetings could boost efficiency and quality at the council.

"The main thing I did during the meeting was to report to lawmakers the establishment of a coordination mechanism on Legco affairs, which will help councillors organise different types of council work in a more effective manner," Lee wrote.

The DAB veteran also said Chief Executive John Lee would give a speech on Wednesday in the first council meeting of the new term.

He will talk about the government's expectations for Legco, the positive interactions between the executive and the legislature, and the authorities' work in the aftermath of the Wang Fuk Court inferno.

The new Legco president said she's also extended discussion time on the government motion about the fire that will be moved by Chief Secretary Eric Chan following the Chief Executive's remarks.
