Polytechnic University (PolyU) on Wednesday unveiled a patriotic education base along with Xi'an Jiaotong University.

The PolyU Patriotic Education Base is designed to be an educational platform to help with student exchanges between the SAR and Xi'an, the capital of Shaanxi province.

The base in Hong Kong serves as the platform's headquarters, after a similar platform was established in Xi'an last year.

Formerly known as Chang'an, Xi'an is one of the country's four great ancient capitals, having held important positions under several dynasties, notably the Qin era.

The education base is tasked with helping to develop teaching materials, while training teachers and offering public forums and seminars, to enable students and staff to gain a deeper understanding of Chinese culture.

Speaking at the unveiling ceremony, PolyU's council chairman, Lam Tai-fai, said the base is an important project between the two institutions, as the two sides gradually deepen their "brotherhood" relationship.

"Our goal is to cultivate more patriotic young people to benefit the society and to contribute to the nation, helping to realise the great rejuvenation of China," he said.

"The spirit of patriotism is the great driving force to realise this vision," he said, adding that the initiative will also help strengthen the sense of national pride among the PolyU community.
