The government said on Thursday that Legislative Council President Starry Lee has resigned from a government working group on patriotic education with immediate effect.
In a statement, it said Lee tendered her resignation earlier this month when she was elected Legco president.
Chief Secretary Eric Chan thanked Lee for her significant contributions since being named the convenor of the Working Group on Patriotic Education when it was established in April, 2024.
The group advises officials on the overall programme and strategy for patriotic education promotion and implementation and works under the Constitution and Basic Law Promotion Steering Committee, which Chan chairs.
"Lee has proactively led the work of the working group and provided a wealth of valuable advice to the government on promoting patriotic education and enhancing the sense of patriotism and national sentiment of the public," the minister said.
The government said it will announce the appointment of a new convenor in due course.
