Police arrested a 73‑year‑old woman on Thursday for allegedly murdering her husband during a apparent joint suicide attempt in a Tsim Sha Tsui hotel.

Police called to the scene by a hotel staff member found the couple lying unconscious on a bed at the hotel on Austin Avenue at around 5pm on Thursday.

The 77-year-old husband had sustained suspected stab wounds to his neck and hand and died in hospital shortly afterwards.

The wife was taken to hospital and subsequently arrested for murder. Officers believe she killed her husband after both took pills in a joint suicide attempt.

Officers say two knives suspected to be related to the case were taken from the scene, along with two wills. Initial investigations suggest the married couple had decided to end their lives due to chronic health problems.

A post-mortem will be conducted on the victim to determine the cause of death as investigations continue.
