Lawmaker Judy Chan apologised on Saturday for "carelessness" after she was filmed driving against the flow of traffic in Wan Chai.
Her apology came after an online video on Friday showed a black car being driven against the flow of oncoming traffic along Jaffe Road towards fire engines. Chan later confirmed she had been the driver of the vehicle.
The New People's Party lawmaker said she had been in a hurry at the time and was willing to bear any legal responsibility and assisting police in their investigations.
Chan stressed that she would not be driving in the near future.
"I would like to take this chance to make my apology," she said.
"I want to say that I'm sorry to the general public. [I] will provide as much information as I need to for the investigation."
Chan later went to the police to give a statement, saying she spent around an hour giving her account of the incident to traffic officers at a station in Shau Kei Wan.
"I provided the police with every little detail that I could remember, as well as the road conditions... hopefully it can help with the investigation. I acknowledge that I made a very wrong decision and I've also disappointed the public," she told reporters.
