Police have charged a man for allegedly illegally possessing around 800 kilogrammes of fireworks.
Officers said they found 58 boxes of fireworks worth an estimated HK$1 million in a rented container in Tai Lam Chung, Tuen Mun, on Monday.
A man arrested over the haul, 37, is due to appear before a magistrate in Fanling on February 12.
At a press briefing on Tuesday, senior inspector Kwok Man-wai urged people not to buy fireworks from illegal sources.
"These products easily cause fire and other serious incidents, posing threats towards individuals and public safety," he said.
According to the law, anyone who possesses fireworks illegally can face up to a HK$200,000 fine and 12-month imprisonment upon conviction.
