Police are investigating a daylight robbery in Sheung Wan on Friday morning, in which two Japanese men were robbed of 58 million yen, or almost HK$3 million.
Officers said they received reports at around 9.47am that the two victims were targetted while alighting from a taxi at 272 Des Voeux Road Central.
According to police, two assailants seized the currency and fled the scene eastbound in a private car.
No weapons were reportedly used during the incident.
This marks the second major yen robbery in the district in about a month.
In the previous case, police arrested 15 people in connection with the alleged theft of one billion yen, or around HK$50 million, after two staff from a Japanese virtual currency and luxury-goods company were ambushed on their way to a currency exchange shop.
