Drivers using 11 public car parks will have to pay an additional HK$150 per month starting March 1, the Transport Department said in an announcement of the fee hike on Monday.

It said in a statement that the hourly rate for all vehicles, except for motorcycles, will rise by HK$1.

Day parking fees for cars, taxis and vans will surge by HK$10, compared with a HK$2 rise for motorcycles.

Fee increases for night parking will be HK$1 for motorcycles and HK$5 for all other vehicles.

The HK$150 increase for monthly parking applies to cars, taxis and vans, but the department said the rise would be less, HK$120, for taxis paying concessionary parking fees.

For motorcyclists, it will be HK$60 more a month.

The 11 facilities are Kennedy Town Car Park, Rumsey Street Car Park, Star Ferry Car Park, City Hall Car Park, Tin Hau Car Park, Shau Kei Wan Car Park, Aberdeen Car Park, Sheung Fung Street Car Park, Wong Tai Sin Car Park, Kwai Fong Car Park and Tsuen Wan Car Park.

A spokesman said the department had taken into consideration factors such as charges at nearby public car parks, public acceptability and the utilisation of these car parks before deciding on the fee hikes.
