President Xi Jinping said on Tuesday China and Uruguay should boost cooperation in various areas, including trade and infrastructure construction, in talks with visiting Uruguayan President Yamandu Orsi in Beijing.

According to Xinhua News Agency, Xi called on both countries to explore the potential for cooperation in emerging fields including green development, digital economy, artificial intelligence and clean energy, to drive economic growth and transformation.

The president said the two sides should deepen cooperation in areas such as economy and trade, finance, agriculture and animal husbandry, infrastructure construction, as well as information and communications technology.

Xi said China and Uruguay should continue to firmly support each other's core interests, strengthen friendly exchanges at all levels and deepen strategic mutual trust.

The two leaders witnessed the signing of more than 10 cooperation documents covering investment, trade and other fields, Xinhua reported.

Xi also said Beijing supports Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) countries in upholding their sovereignty, security and development interests.

The president added China stands ready to work with Uruguay and other regional countries to further promote the building of a China-LAC community with a shared future.

Orsi is on a state visit to China that lasts till Saturday, according to the Foreign Ministry.
