President Xi Jinping on Wednesday said that China and Russia should increase high-level exchanges and strengthen pragmatic cooperation in various fields.
Xi was speaking to his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin during a virtual meeting, when he noted that this year marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the China-Russia strategic partnership of coordination.
He said the two countries should ensure that bilateral relations continue to develop along the right track through deeper strategic coordination.
The president also said Beijing and Moscow should work together to maintain global strategic stability, as the international situation has become increasingly turbulent since the beginning of the year.
As responsible major countries and permanent members of the United Nations Security Council, China and Russia have the obligation to encourage the international community to uphold fairness and justice.
He also called on the two to firmly safeguard the victorious outcomes of the Second World War, resolutely defend the UN-centred international system and the basic norms of international law.
Addressing Xi as his "dear friend", Putin said "the foreign policy alliance between Moscow and Beijing remains an important stabilising factor".
"The Russian-Chinese comprehensive partnership and strategic cooperation is exemplary," Putin said. (XInhua/AFP)
