The Centre for Food Safety (CFS) has ordered a recall of several batches of Aptamil infant milk formula, saying an alert on its Food Incident Surveillance System indicated the batches might contain bacteria that can cause vomiting and diarrhoea.

In a statement late on Friday, the centre said the formula, Aptamil Profutura DUO Advance 1, had already been withdrawn in parts of Europe as it may contain Cereulide, produced by Bacillus cereus in the raw material.

CFS said Hong Kong distributor HK Wukong Trading had stopped sales and removed the formula from the shelves, recalling it in line with the centre’s instructions.

"The CFS has instructed the importer, distributor and retailers concerned to stop sales and remove the affected batch of the product concerned from shelves and to initiate a recall. Members of the public may call the distributor's hotline at 6426 1511 during office hours for enquiries about the recall," it said.

The centre, which comes under the government's Food and Environmental Hygiene Department, said the formula was imported from Germany and that 65 boxes of 390 cans had been distributed.

CFS said the formula had a pack size of 800 grams and a use-by date of April 21, 2027.

CFS said it had set up a webpage to provide information on the recall.
