Secretary for Transport and Logistics Mable Chan has requested the MTR to fully investigate why train service on the Island Line was suspended for more than half an hour on Wednesday morning.

The disruption occurred between Sheung Wan and Quarry Bay stations due to an object obstructing the track near Wan Chai Station.

Train service gradually resumed from 7.30am after the object was removed.

Chan told reporters that the government has required the MTR Corporation to submit a comprehensive report within one month.

She also instructed the rail operator to provide a preliminary findings report by today.

“We will be following up closely,” Chan said, adding that staff from the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department were dispatched to the site to assess the situation.
