Police said a traffic accident on the North Lantau Highway on Wednesday morning claimed one man's life and left two other people injured.
Officers received a report at 9.49am that a taxi heading to the airport crashed into a parked truck carrying an arrow sign which was in the fast lane.
Online photos showed significant damage to the front of the taxi and the rear of the roadworks vehicle.
A male passenger, 27, was found unconscious with multiple injuries and was later pronounced dead at North Lantau Hospital.
Police suspect the man was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident and was ejected from the vehicle.
Officers said the taxi driver, 43, sustained multiple abrasions, while the driver of the maintenance truck, 41, suffered a leg injury. Both were taken to hospital for treatment.
Following the crash, the Transport Department closed several lanes of the highway near Citygate.
