China and the United States have agreed to strengthen dialogue and co-operation in various fields and promote the stable development of bilateral relations as Foreign Minister Wang Yi engaged in a flurry of meetings with his Western counterparts on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference.
In bilateral talks with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Friday, Wang pointed out that President Xi Jinping and his US counterpart, Donald Trump, had provided strategic guidance for the development of China-US relations.
Both sides, he said, should jointly implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state and make 2026 a year in which China and the United States move towards mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and win-win co-operation.
Dialogue is better than confrontation, cooperation is better than conflict, and win-win outcomes are better than zero-sum games, Wang said.
As long as both sides uphold the principles of equality, respect and mutual benefit, they will, he said, be able to find ways to address each other's concerns and properly manage differences.
He urged both sides to make joint efforts to continuously expand the list of areas of co-operation and reduce the list of problems, so as to steer China-US relations onto a track of stable, healthy, and sustainable development and send more positive signals to the world.
Both sides agreed the meeting was positive and constructive and to jointly implement the important consensus reached by their heads of state, give full play to the co-ordinating role of political and diplomatic channels, support high-level interactions between the two countries, strengthen dialogue and co-operation in various fields, and promote the stable development of bilateral relations.
In a meeting with German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul, Wang urged Germany to join China in strengthening strategic communications and jointly oppose unilateralism and bloc confrontation.
China, he said, stands ready to work with Germany to prepare for the next stage of high-level exchanges, add new dimensions to the China-Germany all-round strategic partnership, achieve new progress in co-operation across various fields and make more contributions to the sound and steady development of China-EU relations.
China is also committed to high-standard opening up and ready to foster a first-class business environment that is market-oriented, law-based and internationalized for German and other foreign enterprises, so that they may share in China's development opportunities, he said.
In talks with British Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper, Wang said the two states, as major countries in the world and permanent members of the UN Security Council, bore responsibilities for safeguarding international peace and security and should maintain regular exchanges, enhance strategic co-ordination and communication, expand shared interests, and jointly safeguard world peace and development.
In talks with French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot, Wang urged France to make joint efforts with China to safeguard the status and role of the United Nations and prevent the world from reverting to the law of the jungle. (Xinhua)
