Chief Executive John Lee has expressed his wish for the city to continue seizing opportunities and overcoming challenges in the Year of the Horse, while hoping for swift success in people's every endeavour.

He extended his Lunar New Year greetings to the people of Hong Kong in a video message on the eve of the holiday on Monday.

"The horse, symbolising speed and stamina, boldly charges ahead, covering vast distances every day," Lee said.

"As we step into the Year of the Horse, let us continue to move with agility and steadiness, seizing opportunities, overcoming challenges and propelling Hong Kong forward."

The minute-long video, themed after the horse, showed the chief executive with a ceramic plate painted with the zodiac animal.

Also appearing in the video was his wife Janet Lam, who was painting a separate plate with auspicious words about horses.
