The Consumer Council said on Monday it had seen improvements in the quality of perfumes sold in Hong Kong, saying they contained less allergens and were labelled more clearly than in a similar study conducted eight years ago.
The council tested 40 popular fragrances in its latest study.
“We have seen less allergens and substances such as phthalates and synthetic musks," chief executive Alaina Shum said.
"We've also found that the labels have improved.”
But Shum pointed out that people with specific medical issues, such as asthma or skin allergies, should be extra careful, especially with perfumes that contain higher levels of fragrance allergens.
