Hiking is a popular activity for locals and tourists alike on the third day of the Chinese New Year, with many opting for the High Island Reservoir East Dam in Sai Kung.
Authorities have deployed extra staff there to limit the number of vehicles, as the area has become increasingly crowded after being branded a tourist hotspot on mainland social media.
"This is my first visit. We're climbing the hills in the new year for a new beginning, so we hope the new year will be better and better," one woman from Dongguan told RTHK.
"There are plenty of police officers around here to maintain order, I find the place to be quite orderly."
Another visitor, from Shenzhen, said he's usually busy with work, so the Lunar New Year holiday is the perfect time for a visit.
"The MacLehose Trail has been named one of the top 10 hikes across China this year, it's such a beautiful place," he said.
"I've been thinking about visiting for some time, and so I came during the holidays."
Also spotted on the MacLehose Trail were a group of local hikers, who started their trip from Pak Tam Chung as they made their way to East Dam.
They said things were orderly.
