The Ministry of Commerce on Monday said it is conducting a "comprehensive assessment" of the US Supreme Court's tariff ruling and urged Washington to lift relevant unilateral tariffs on its trading partners.
Xinhua News Agency reported the ministry had noted the Supreme Court's ruling against the US government's tariffs imposed under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA), and that it "is conducting a comprehensive assessment of its relevant content and impact."
The ministry noted that "the US Supreme Court ruled on Friday that the US government's imposition of tariffs on trading partners under the IEEPA is illegal", Xinhua reported.
The ministry said the US planned to maintain tariffs on trading partners through alternative means including trade investigations.
"China will continue to pay close attention to this and firmly safeguard its interests," the ministry added. (Additional reporting by Reuters)
