Police said a 23-year-old female police officer assigned to the patrol sub-unit of Kwun Tong district was found dead at Kwun Tong Police Station on Wednesday morning.

Her body was discovered around 7.45am in the station's loading and unloading area.

According to police, the officer was pronounced dead at the scene and a service pistol was found next to her.

Officers said initial investigations suggest she died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound after using her issued firearm.

Authorities stated that a post-mortem examination will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.

The case is currently being investigated by the regional crime unit of Kowloon East.

Police expressed deep sorrow and regret over the incident and extended their condolences to the officer's family.
