Cathay Pacific announced it has suspended all flight operations in the Middle East amid the conflict between Iran and the United States.
These include passenger flights to and from Dubai and Riyadh on Sunday, as well as freighter service at Al Maktoum airport in Dubai.
Cathay also said flights that usually fly over relevant airspace in the region have been diverted.
The SAR’s flag carrier said the safety of passengers and its crew is its top priority, and it would review the situation before considering resuming the affected flights.
The airline also said it has waived passengers’ rebooking and rerouting charges, and urged them to check the latest flight arrangement before leaving for the airport.
The Airport Authority said 12 flights had been cancelled as of 5pm on Sunday because of the situation in the Middle East.
The cancellations included passenger flights to and from Dubai, Riyadh, and Doha.
The authority added that eight flights scheduled for Monday have been cancelled.
Meanwhile, the Immigration Department said it had received enquiries from 131 Hongkongers who are in the Middle East as of 8am on Sunday.
All of them are reported to be safe.
The department said it would continue to maintain contact with those Hong Kong residents and offer assistance where necessary.
